Police on Monday said they have registered an FIR against National Panthers Party (NPP) chairman, Harsh Dev Singh for allegedly abusing the deputy commissioner, Udhampur, Ravinder Kumar and senior superintendent of police (SSP) Rayees Mohammad Bhat during an official meeting.
“We’ve booked Harsh Dev Singh under section 188 and 353 of the RPC at Udhampur police station for his misbehavior during an official meeting,” SSP Udhampur, Rayees Mohammad Bhat told Greater Kashmir.
The NPP chairman Harsh Dev Singh in a statement, however, claimed that his party too has lodged an FIR against the SSP at Udhampur police station over alleged “manhandling” of a female party activist by a male police officer on the direction of senior government officials, but the later denied of registering any FIR.
The SSP Udhampur said that while he and the DDC Udhampur were discussing arrangements for the Independence Day celebrations in a meeting, Harsh Dev Singh send his men seeking permission to meet the officers.
“As we were busy, we asked him (Harsh) to wait outside till the conclusion of the meeting. Later, when I and DDC Udhampur were deliberating on other important issues in the premises of DC office, the NPP chairman forced open the door and started hurling abuses on the DC,” Bhat said, adding, “When I objected to this, Harsh Dev Singh threw abuses on me and passed some derogatory gestures on us.”
“Taking cognizance of this unruly behaviour of the NPP chairman, on the direction of DC Udhampur, the district police lodged an FIR against Harsh Dev Singh under relevant sections of the law,” the SSP Udhampur further said.
Harsh Dev Singh and NPP president, Balwant Singh Mankotia didn’t reply to repeated phone calls of this scribe.
